Holika Dahan 2026: date and muhurat
होलिका दहन 2026
New Delhi, Delhi · IST
Holika Dahan 2026 is on 3 March 2026, Tuesday.
- Holika Dahan muhurat: 6:22 PM – 8:50 PM
- Shukla Purnima: 5:56 PM (2 Mar) to 5:07 PM
What it is and how it is observed
Holika Dahan, on the eve of Holi, celebrates Prahlad's devotion and the victory of good over evil. A bonfire is lit after sunset, avoiding Bhadra, and families circle it offering grain, coconut and prayers.
How the date is fixed
Phalguna (amanta) Shukla Purnima: tithi prevailing in Pradosh kaal (after sunset).
Dates follow Drik Panchang. When Bhadra covers the whole Purnima night and Purnima lasts most of the next day, Drik moves Holika Dahan to the next evening's Pradosh (as in 2026, 3 March); some almanacs instead give a time late on the first night, after Bhadra ends.
